According to reliable sources, Pigeon Phat has been rehearsing frequently for the last two months and inside sources say they are working on (a) new material. This shocking news hit the World Wide Web last week. It’s a good shock – especially to fans who have grown tired of those same 6 songs, played in exactly the same way, in exactly the same sequence for nearly 2 years now.
“Yeah, I like them, but honestly, it’s about time they come up with new songs.” – Anonymous
When asked if he was nervous about the show, Phat bassist Alexander Chow simply replied, “Ha! I’ve played bigger shows than this.”
The sentiment is not widespread in the band however. When reached for commentary Pigeon lead guitarist David “Mini-Wheat” Wheaton responded in an excited tone while fanning his t-shirt: “I’m not even nervous – that’s the thing.” A close friend of Wheaton’s has confirmed that he is has missed several “ball” hockey games claiming he needs to “land a solo.”
Frontman Aaron Seligman has been under a particularly large amount of performance pressure after being singled out in the official Pop Montreal communiqué announcing the show. Although it’s unclear whether the mention has gone to his head and inflated his ego, reports have come in that the band spends a disproportionate amount of rehearsal time going over his “trouble spots”.
“I really want this to be a good show for me! I mean, for the band.”
– Aaron Seligman
Keyboardist/atmospherist Laura “Pregnant” Wills is under some pressure herself. She is pregnant. Reports indicate that she has become obsessed with being the first Montreal indie post-punk/schtick-rock artist to play shows while pregnant during two separate terms. She is now nine months, 22 days pregnant, and she is struggling to “hold it in” until the show is over.
“Jonathan, is that a Dorito by your foot?!?” – Laura Wills
Drummer Jonathan Achtman has been said to be in top shape and has been showing confidence in rehearsals. “Wow, Jonathan you’re really cut,” observed frontman Seligman, at which Achtman was quick to produce a large fitness ball and began demonstrating different pilates excercise which focus on core muscles. The rest of the band watched with forced “good-for-you” expressions while body image issues ran high among the guitar section of the ensemble.
“She’s not my pilates instructor, guy, she’s my future wife slash pilates instructor, bro.” – Jonathan Achtman
“My song won’t even make it,” expressed rhythm guitarist and songwriter Sinbad Richardson, of the probability that a song he prepared will not be ready in time for the show. It should be noted that the song in question features very little Aaron Seligman on vocals. Rumors around the water cooler are that Seligman is “Bogarting” rehearsal time to prevent Richardson’s material from getting any attention and thus securing his own featured role at the front the band. Close friends of the stalky singsmith claim that they haven’t seen him like this before; willing to do anything to be the star. That’s the nature of the business, dog eat dog, or in this case, pigeon peck at other pigeon…while they are sleeping.
“Before I did more singing it feels like.” – Sinbad Richardson
BREAKING = A t-shirt design by Sinbad Richardson also fell by the wayside when Aaron Seligman was suddenly taken by a great idea he had after flipping through a vintage skin magazine.
